Fighting for taxpayers = loser??

Senator Al Melvin, a member of the Republican Caucus in the Senate, had some interesting comments recently at an Americans for Prosperity event down in Oro Valley.

According to a blogger's recap of the event, Senator Melvin declared that most members of our caucus were "moderates."  I can only imagine the surprise of many of my colleagues, who generally are good conservatives and refer to themselves as such, to find out that Senator Melvin considers them moderates.  Of course Senator Melvin also declared himself a moderate as well.

Now in fairness, I agree with Senator Melvin that he is a moderate.  Despite running as a conservative, Senator Melvin has sponsored more nanny state legislation than just about any member of the Republican caucus.

But Senator Melvin wasn't done putting his proverbial foot in his mouth.  He also referred to both Senator Pamela Gorman and myself as "loser-tarians."  Interesting juxtaposition that I can only imagine originates from the fact that Senator Gorman and myself did not support the Governor's plan to raise your taxes.

Would you ever think that standing up for the taxpayers and refusing to vote for higher taxes would make you a "loser?"  According to my moderate colleague Senator Melvin that's what it does.
