Senator Ron Gould Receives Highest Score from Goldwater Institute

For the fifth year in a row, Senator Ron Gould has received the highest score in the entire Arizona Legislature from the Goldwater Institute in their annual Legislative Report Card.

The study analyzes how well Arizona's legislators are voting to uphold liberty. The report analyzes over 300 votes across four categories: education, regulation, tax and budget, and Constitutional government.

Senator Gould was the only legislator to receive an "A" rating in the study.

"I believe that more than ever, it is important to remain true to the principles of limited government and economic freedom," said Senator Gould

"Limited government and economic freedom have always been the key to prosperity and growth. It is important that we remain committed to these key principles as we work to find real solutions to issues and problems facing our state."

Senator Ron Gould is currently in his 3rd term in the Arizona State Senate. He represents Arizona's 3rd Legislative District.

Fighting for taxpayers = loser??

Senator Al Melvin, a member of the Republican Caucus in the Senate, had some interesting comments recently at an Americans for Prosperity event down in Oro Valley.

According to a blogger's recap of the event, Senator Melvin declared that most members of our caucus were "moderates."  I can only imagine the surprise of many of my colleagues, who generally are good conservatives and refer to themselves as such, to find out that Senator Melvin considers them moderates.  Of course Senator Melvin also declared himself a moderate as well.

Now in fairness, I agree with Senator Melvin that he is a moderate.  Despite running as a conservative, Senator Melvin has sponsored more nanny state legislation than just about any member of the Republican caucus.

But Senator Melvin wasn't done putting his proverbial foot in his mouth.  He also referred to both Senator Pamela Gorman and myself as "loser-tarians."  Interesting juxtaposition that I can only imagine originates from the fact that Senator Gorman and myself did not support the Governor's plan to raise your taxes.

Would you ever think that standing up for the taxpayers and refusing to vote for higher taxes would make you a "loser?"  According to my moderate colleague Senator Melvin that's what it does.
